New Issue Brief on Nutritional Quality of Meals

The Administration for Community Living (ACL) is conducting a three-part evaluation of its Title III-C Nutrition Services Program (NSP), which promotes access to nutritious meals, facilitates social contact, supports family caregivers and helps older adults maintain dignity in their homes and communities. The Process Evaluation Report and the Meal Cost Study Report were released in 2015 and the Client Outcome Study: Part I, was released in July.
The brief describes the nutritional quality of congregate and home-delivered meals offered through the Nutrition Services Program and examines their compliance with the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which were in effect at the time of the data collection. This brief elaborates on how the Healthy Eating Index (HEI)-2010 was used to assess the nutritional quality of the congregate and home-delivered meals and the meals compliance with the key recommendations of the 2010 Dietary Guidelines.
