Biostatistician Rajesh R. Nandy of the University of North Texas Health
Science Center said late Thursday that as long as Greg Abbott notes that
his study’s conclusions are only about four counties in North Texas, he’s fine
with the Republican governor’s saying it "validates" a belief that a
statewide mask order will be effective enough to avert more stay at home
edicts.
Whether masks slow the spread of the coronavirus is not in question.
Public health experts say they’re one of the best tools available, absent a
vaccine. But figuring out how much they’ve helped in Texas is tricky, because
other changes -- such as the closing of bars -- happened around the same time.
