Texas DPS network outage added to delays for drivers seeking licenses in July, agency admits

In late May, the Texas Department of Public Safety rolled out a long-awaited revamp of its online scheduling system for driver’s license appointments.

The new system - for which the state has paid $1.2 million since April 2019 - was supposed to alleviate hours-long waits at driver’s license offices across the state by allowing Texans to set up appointments up to six months in advance. But in early July, a statewide network outage rendered the highly touted system useless.
