Second-quarter
earnings season is here. Next week, 27 S&P 500 companies are set
to report their results from an unprecedented three months. As always, big
banks are among the first companies to report. JPMorgan
Chase, Citigroup, and Wells
Fargo kick
things off on Tuesday, followed by Goldman
Sachs on
Wednesday and Morgan Stanley and Bank
of America on Thursday.
Other
highlights include results from PepsiCo on Monday and Delta
Air Lines on Tuesday. UnitedHealth
Group reports
on Wednesday, followed by a busy Thursday: Netflix, Taiwan
Semiconductor Manufacturing, and Johnson
& Johnson all report. Finally, BlackRock and Kansas
City Southern close out the week on Friday.
Economic data
to be released next week includes the Bureau
of Labor Statistics' June consumer price index on Tuesday,
industrial production data from the Federal
Reserve on
Wednesday, June retail-sales data from the Census
Bureau on
Thursday, and the University of
Michigan's Consumer Sentiment Index for July on Friday.
The Bank
of Japan announces a monetary-policy decision on
Wednesday. And on Friday, shareholders of E*Trade
Financial will vote on the online broker's proposed
acquisition by Morgan Stanley.
