More older adults' cavities treated with paint-on coating
Growing numbers of dentists and hygienists are using silver
diamine fluoride coatings off-label to treat dental caries in the very old, the
very young and others who can't easily get a conventional filling. State
Medicaid programs and private insurers have begun covering the treatment, which
is inexpensive and more accessible than standard care for people who lack
insurance coverage; however, it turns the treated area black.
