NIH trials test anticoagulants in COVID-19 patients
The NIH announced the launch of two of three Phase III studies
that will assess the safety and efficacy of various blood thinners to treat
adult COVID-19 patients as blood clots have been found to be a common
life-threatening effect of the disease. "There is currently no standard of
care for anticoagulation in hospitalized COVID-19 patients, and there is a
desperate need for clinical evidence to guide practice," said NIH Director
Francis Collins.
