Mid-, late-life CV health affect odds of dementia
Middle-aged adults with "ideal" and moderate
cardiovascular health metrics -- based on body weight, blood pressure and
cholesterol levels, and physical activity -- had 48% and 29% reduced risk of
developing late-life dementia, respectively, compared with those with poor CV
health metric performance, researchers reported in the journal PLOS Medicine.
The findings also showed that those with ideal and moderate mid- and late-life
CV health metric performance had 86% and 75% lower odds of dementia,
respectively, compared with those who performed poorly.
