Webinar 2/23:
Self-Advocacy for Women Living with Paralysis
Tuesday, February 23, at 3:00 PM ET
Register for the webinar.
This webinar will examine what self-advocacy is and where it
can take place as well as explore disability stereotypes and gender
socialization patterns that can present obstacles to practicing
self-advocacy for women living with paralysis. By learning about these
social inequalities, attendees will have greater awareness of power
differences and be able to exert greater control over the oppression they
face in their advocacy efforts. Themes on the intersections of advocacy,
disability, gender, assertiveness, and empowerment will be presented,
with concluding tips for women living with paralysis to increase their
self-advocacy skills. The webinar will be presented by Lauren Presutti, a
licensed psychotherapist and disability activist who is living with
muscular dystrophy.
ACL funds the Paralysis Resource Center to provide
comprehensive information for people living with spinal cord injury,
paralysis and mobility-related disabilities and their support networks.
Resources include information and referral by phone and email in multiple
languages including Spanish; a peer and family support mentoring program;
a military and veterans program; multicultural outreach services; quality
of life grants; and a national website.
