Even with cases rising, it's unlikely to see numbers get as high
in Massachusetts as they have during previous surges, according to multiple public health experts who spoke to
the Globe. The reason? Massachusetts has a particularly high
vaccination rate. However, some of the experts warn that even fully vaccinated
people should continue to take some precautions to keep themselves and their
families safe. A few of their suggestions:
"Even if you’ve been vaccinated, you might want to think twice about going
into an intensely crowded situation," said Dr. Philip Landrigan,
director of the Global Public Health Program at Boston College.
"People should wear masks at least as much as feasible in indoor
settings," said Dr. David Hamer, a physician at Boston Medical Center.
And if you're still not vaccinated, get vaccinated. Anyone who is
unvaccinated is "gambling with their lives. They’re gambling with their
parents lives. They’re gambling with their children’s lives," said
Landrigan.
- A closer look at Massachusetts' breakthrough cases: As of Saturday, 303 people who were fully vaccinated have been hospitalized with the coronavirus, and 79 have died (in or out of the hospital).
