CMS Updates Data on Geographic Data in the Medicare Program

Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released our annual update to the Geographic Variation Public Use Files with data for 2020.  The Geographic Variation Public Use Files contain demographic, spending, utilization, and quality indicators for the Medicare fee-for-service population.  There are two files available on data.cms.gov.  One of the files presents data at the state-level (including the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands) and at the county-level. The other file presents data at the hospital referral region (HRR) level.  Additionally, users can leverage our interactive data tool to help further analyze the Medicare Geographic Variation data at the state- and county-levels.
