Today, the Centers for
Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released a monthly update of data that
provides a snapshot of the impact of COVID-19 on the Medicare population. The
updated data show over 4.9 million COVID-19 cases among the Medicare population
and over 1.3 million COVID-19 hospitalizations. The updated snapshot
covers the period from January 1, 2020 to August 21, 2021. It is based on
Medicare Fee-for-Service claims and Medicare Advantage encounter data CMS
received by September 17, 2021. In addition, CMS
released a new supplemental COVID-19 Hospitalizations Trend Report that
highlights trends in hospitalization rates over the same time period cut by
month and various demographic characteristics. To view the updated
