COVID case numbers are waning in...

..New England, and many towns have dropped protective measures as a result. But doctors say that means we should prepare ourselves for the return of common infections — like colds and the flu — that many people have blissfully dodged for the past two years.

Measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus have disrupted the transmission of many everyday pathogens around the world, my colleague Ryan Cross reported.

Now, they’re coming back. “I don’t think it is cause for concern,” said Dr. Philip J. Landrigan, pediatrician and epidemiologist at Boston College. “It is just back to the unpleasant situation that we had to deal with every winter before COVID-19.”
