As the Delta variant continues to wreak havoc in the United States, coronavirus
cases are spiking again in Massachusetts, hitting levels
similar to what we saw around this time last year. As of Wednesday, the
seven-day average of reported COVID-19 cases in the state was 2,615,
up from 1,180 on Nov. 2.
And hospitalizations are unfortunately rising, too. From Nov. 4 to
Nov. 30, there was a 91 percent increase in coronavirus hospitalizations.
“It’s a reminder that COVID is far from gone,” Dr. Paul Edward Sax,
clinical director of the infectious disease clinic at Brigham and Women’s
Hospital, told the
Globe. “People who are unvaccinated [a significant
minority] and people with underlying immune deficits remain at
significant risk.”
