Updated Brief Provides the Latest Facts on Medicare Spending and
Financing
An updated brief from the Kaiser Family Foundation
provides a concise overview of the latest historical and projected Medicare
spending data, how Medicare is financed and the financial outlook for the
program. Drawing on data from the recently-released 2018 Medicare Trustees report,
the brief includes information about the solvency of the Medicare Part A
trust fund—now projected to be depleted in 2026, three years earlier than the
2017 projection due in part to legislation enacted in the past year,
including repeal of the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate and repeal
of the Independent Payment Advisory Board.
Filling
the need for trusted information on national health issues, the
Kaiser Family Foundation is a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco,
California.
