Startup Insurers With Eyes on the Public Sector


While many were founded to offer coverage on the exchanges, health insurance startups are starting to see the public sector, particularly Medicare Advantage, as a stable source of enrollment and premiums. One of the largest players in the startup game, Oscar Health, plans to enter the MA market in 2020, following a round of funding from Google parent Alphabet. Relative newcomer Bright Health will begin offering MA plans in three new states in 2019, with plans to triple its current presence, according to a July 11 press release from the insurer.
