The
Philadelphia physician who styles himself "America's Medical Marijuana
Doctor" has lost his license to practice medicine after a state
psychiatric evaluation. The evaluation followed the doctor's attempt to buy a
handgun and a series of ranting YouTube videos.
State
documents described Matthew Roman Roman
as "unable to practice the profession with reasonable skill and safety to
patients by reason of illness or addiction to drugs,” according to Philly.com. Roman runs Nature’s Way Medicine, a
doctor's office Old City, where patients could pay $200 for a
"recommendation," like a prescription, for medicinal marijuana.
Roman
is a prolific YouTuber. According to Philly.com, the Nature's Way YouTube channel is
characterized by "long agitated rants about his relationships with
women, his thoughts about the medical profession, and his love of
marijuana while smoking a joint." State officials say “displayed a
problematic pattern of cannabis use leading to clinically significant
impairment."
Roman,
34, himself a registered medical marijuana patient, declined to comment,
according to the Philly.com, other than to say he would post a response on his
YouTube channel, Wednesday evening. As of Thursday morning, the latest video
posted there is dated one week ago.
Roman
had sued the Trump Administration after a gun dealer, Firing Line of South
Philadelphia, refused to sell him a handgun, citing a 1968 law forbidding gun
owners from using marijuana, Philly.com reports.
