Racial gaps in prostate cancer mortality examined
Black patients with prostate cancer who underwent radical
prostatectomy had 51% higher mortality rates, compared with white patients, but
the gap drops to 30% after accounting for educational attainment, insurance
status and median household income, according to a study in the journal Cancer.

survival difference, particularly between Black and white prostate patients,
can be narrowed by erasing the racial inequities in socioeconomic status and
health care," said researcher Wanqing Wen, M.D.
