Fewer imaging exams ordered for Black, Hispanic
children
Data from a study published in JAMA Network Open found that fewer
imaging tests are ordered by doctors for Black and Hispanic children, compared
with those ordered for their white counterparts. The disparities were uncovered
through an analysis of billing data from emergency departments of 52 hospitals
throughout the US, with 18% of Black children less likely to have imaging tests
done during their ED visit, while Hispanic kids were 13% less likely to undergo
imaging compared with their white peers.
