The Biden administration fell short of its goal for 70 percent
of American adults to have at least vaccine dose by July 4th (it was at 66.8
percent as of Friday). That didn't keep Biden from celebrating his successes
this past weekend with a "summer of freedom" barbecue on the South
Lawn of the White House.
"Two hundred and forty five years ago, we declared our independence from a
distant king," he said during the event. "Today, we’re
closer than ever to declaring our independence from a deadly virus. That’s not
to say the battle against COVID-19 is over. We’ve got a lot more work to
do."
"But the celebratory mood might not outlast the pyrotechnics," the Globe's Jim Puzzanghera reported.
"Biden faces difficult headwinds to defend those victories in the weeks
ahead."
- A Washington Post-ABC News poll found
that more than 6 in 10 Americans approve of Biden's handling of the
coronavirus pandemic.
- Vermont continues to lead the country in the percentage of eligible residents who have received a first dose.
