THE VALUE OF GRATITUDE
The Law of the Harvest states that "You
reap what you sow". Traditionally this is the time of year when we give
thanks, and express how grateful we are for the many blessings bestowed on us,
from family and loved ones, to friends, relationships, careers, and the
legacies we leave. But the fact is, giving thanks is something we celebrate
daily, not only at Thanksgiving or the holidays; it is a daily habit we
practice all year-round. Expressing thankfulness impacts not only your team,
but your family, community, and even the world. This is why it is important to
always sow with an attitude of gratitude.
As a leader, I believe it's also critical to
express our gratitude for the dedicated people in our inner circle who help us
reach our goals every day. Too often, we assume that those who work with us
just automatically know how much we appreciate them. But the truth is, they
don't always KNOW it, and we need to SHOW them with real ACTION
for them to FEEL it. Leaders need to SHOW their appreciation with
a human TOUCH beyond words and occasional complements.
That's why I believe in practicing TOUCH
Leadership, which involves the following values and actions:
T-Treat people with love and respect.
O-Overdeliver and
underpromise.
U-Understand first,
respond later.
C-Connect through open
communication.
H-Humbly serve others.
When your team feels valued and appreciated,
they feel empowered to go the extra mile for you, not because they have to--
but because they want to. Actively showing your appreciation builds loyalty and
makes your entire team stronger. You will be surprised to discover how greatly
a simple act of kindness or short words of appreciation can impact and change
the course of someone's day, week, or even life.
These special moments of significance can
transform everything. In leadership as in life, the principles of human
connection and relationships depend on our ability to add value to each other's
efforts and express appreciation. So I want to take a moment now to thank you
for your loyalty in sharing this extraordinary leadership journey with me. Your
successes are my fulfillment. May you reap an abundance of blessings from your
harvest.
"Living in thanksgiving daily is a habit; we must open our
hearts to love more, we must open our arms to hug more, we must open our eyes
to see more and finally, we must live our lives to serve more."
Happy Thanksgiving!
