Title
tags are the first part of a search result snippet Google users see and
you want those tags to be related to the search terms you're looking to
rank for. Not only does this help the search engine, but it also makes
it clear what your page or article is about.
In
the above example, you can see the search snippet's title tag is
"Pros and Cons of Social Media Marketing | Main Street ROI."
It's
important to include a keyword phrase in your title tag. This can boost
click-through rate because users' eyes are drawn to the keyword phrase
they just typed into the search bar.
#2: Create Pages for Every Service or Product Offered
Every
page of your site can be ranked by Google to make it visible to your
target audience. When you don't have a page about a particular service
or product, you may lose out on the opportunities that come with being
in the search results for it.
Many
businesses make the mistake of creating one page that lists all of
their products or services. This means the page is much less specific
than a page dedicated to a single product or service. Google is looking
to provide the most useful pages for the people searching, so a
specific page is more likely to satisfy a user.
Check
to make sure you have a page for every service or product that you want
to promote in Google. If you don't have a page for a particular product
or service, create one.
#3: Expand Thin Content
Each
priority page that you want to rank higher in Google should have at
least 500 words of content. It should tell readers what the page is
about, even if it's just a page of images and videos.
Every
page of your site should target a particular keyword phrase as well.
This will increase the chances of your site being ranked well.
#4: Add Internal Links to Priority Pages
Priority
pages are your services or product pages, and you want to drive as much
traffic as possible to them. That's why you should make sure to link to
them from other pages on your site, like blog posts.
For
example, if you're a dentist and you have a blog post that talks about
teeth whitening, you should link from the blog post to your teeth
whitening services page. When someone reads your post on teeth
whitening, they can easily click through to learn more about how you
can help them.

#5: Set up a Google My Business Profile
Optimizing
your business locally is a necessity for local business owners. Start
by creating a Google My Business page,
which is basically the modern-day version of the Yellow Pages. Complete
all of the sections of the listing and use keyword phrases your target
audience uses when searching for a business like yours.
Once
your Google My Business (GMB) listing is verified and completed, be
sure your website has the same Name, Address, and Phone number on every
page and that it matches what is listed on GMB. This keeps things
consistent and lets Google know it's accurate.
An
easy way to ensure every page has the correct information is to include
it in the footer so that it carries through across your website.

#6: Build Citations
Citations
are mentions of your company's Name, Address, and Phone number, and the
most common form of citations are listings in online directories. All
of these listings should match and be complete, meaning your business Name,
Address, and Phone number (known as your "NAP")
should be consistent across directories. Any inconsistencies can hurt
your local SEO rankings.
#7: Request Online Reviews
Reviews
are not only beneficial to people considering your services or
products, but Google considers them as well when ranking your site.
When
you have clients who say they are satisfied with their experience, ask
them to leave a review on Google, Yelp, or Facebook so they can let
other people know.
Tip:
Some people don't know how to leave online reviews. Create
a page on your site with instructions on how to leave a review with
links to where you want them published. Or, you can even send an email
to repeat customers with a link to post a review.
