Long COVID-19 linked to multiple viral mutations

SARS-CoV-2 mutated multiple times in a 45-year-old man who died after
a 154-day bout with COVID-19, and scientists studying the man's medical records
say viral mutation appears to play a role in so-called long COVID-19, which may
perpetuate the pandemic. The man, who also had antiphospholipid syndrome,
tested positive for different variants of SARS-CoV-2 four times over 22 weeks,
and more than half the mutations were in the part of the virus' genetic code
associated with the spike protein, which vaccines and drugs target.
