The Hearing on Military Retirement Tax Relief

Director Hilgert testifies before the Revenue Committee

On January 29, the Legislature’s Revenue Committee held a hearing on LB 387, a bill which would exclude 100 percent of military retirement pay from Nebraska Income Tax. Members of the committee heard testimony from Governor Ricketts, NDVA Director John Hilgert, Major General Daryl Bohac, and representatives from veteran service organizations and business organizations across the state.

A common theme among testimony was the importance of LB 387 as a workforce development tool for Nebraska. Passing LB 387 would make Nebraska more attractive to military retirees, many of whom move on to second careers when they retire from service. It would also continue the work being done to make Nebraska the most military and veteran friendly state in the country. On February 25, LB 387 was advanced to General File with an amendment that includes language from Senator Carol Blood’s LB 6.
