public-option health insurance plan, which will allow the state to offer tiered
coverage options to all Washington residents by 2021. Plans will be offered by
private insurance companies, and provider payments will be capped at 160% of
Medicare's federal rates. Just over 8 million Washingtonians currently have
health insurance, with 1,813,282 covered by Medicaid and 207,898 enrolled in
exchange plans. According to the latest census data, Washington has an
uninsured rate of about 6%.
