WATCH: Making Sense of
Medicare-For-All and Other Proposals to Expand Public Coverage
On Tuesday, May 21, KFF held a web briefing to
examine recent proposals to expand coverage and make health care more
affordable, including a national Medicare-for-all plan, a public plan option,
and Medicare and Medicaid buy-ins. A recording of the web briefing and a PDF version of the
slides are now available on our website.
Tricia Neuman, senior vice president and director of KFF’s Program on Medicare Policy, provided an overview of the five approaches currently under consideration in Congress, highlighting how they differ, who would be eligible, and the potential impact on people with coverage through their employers or existing programs like Medicaid and Medicare. Mollyann Brodie, senior vice president and executive director of public opinion and survey research, discussed recent survey findings on the public’s view of Medicare-for-all and other health reform proposals, as well as the implications for the upcoming 2020 primaries and general election. Larry Levitt, senior vice president for health reform at KFF, moderated the discussion, which was followed by a Q&A. Attendees submitted questions on industry stakeholders’ responses to the proposals, abortion coverage, and the implications for Medicare Advantage, among many other topics.
