ACL Announces State and Community Alzheimer's Disease Programs Initiative (ADPI) Awards

ADPI three-year cooperative agreements have been awarded to 4 states and 15 community organizations for a total value of $16,913,374. The 2018 awards are located in 13 states across the nation.

ACL’s new ADPI program, focused on developing dementia-capability in states and expanding it in communities, replaces the longstanding Alzheimer’s Disease Supportive Services Program (ADSSP) and the Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative – Specialized Supportive Services (ADI-SSS) program. All new grantees are required to dedicate 50 percent of their grant funds to direct services which include, but are not limited to, implementing dementia specific evidence-based and evidence-informed interventions. They also provide extensive dementia education and training programs in the communities they serve.

The funded programs are engaging in a broad range of activities designed to meet the needs of the individuals they support. Grantees will be targeting long-term services and supports to people living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias; both paid and unpaid caregivers; special populations, including low income and minority communities; people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias who live alone; and individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities at risk of developing a dementia.
