Racial disparities seen in pediatric severe sepsis
outcomes
Researchers examined 9,816 youths diagnosed with severe sepsis in
2016 and found that the overall death rate was 14.6%, with the rate
significantly higher among Blacks at 18.4%, compared with Hispanics at 13.7% or
whites at 13.4%. The findings, published in The Lancet Child & Adolescent
Health, also showed that Black youths were almost 20% more likely to die,
compared with whites.
