At
the time of his multiple myeloma diagnosis, Damion was thirty-six and active,
playing in several basketball leagues and eating healthy.
His diagnosis was shocking—he thought myeloma usually
affected older adults.
Damion began treatment, including chemotherapy and a stem
cell transplant. He admits that it was the hardest time he
had ever experienced, but he did not give up. He sprung
back, realizing his own resiliency.
Now in remission, Damion is active again, back on the
basketball court, and working as a mental health counselor.
He is working with others who are affected by blood cancer
as a community ambassador for The Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society (LLS).

The right support can be
transformative in a patient’s blood cancer journey—and
LLS’s support is unwavering. Here are just a few ways we
can help:
- a free peer-to-peer
support program that introduces patients
and caregivers to a trained peer volunteer who has
gone through a similar experience.
- local support groups
for patients and family members
- Free in-person and virtual blood
cancer conferences where patients,
survivors, and families can learn about treatment
options, emerging therapies, survivorship, and so
much more.
Our goal is to nurture and support all
aspects of a patient’s journey—and that includes helping
them build the resiliency they’ll need to navigate their
treatment, survivorship, and life beyond blood
cancer.
