New Federal Report Shows Stable Uninsured Rate

In 2017, about 8.7% of the population, or 28.5 million people, did not have health insurance at any point during the year, according to a new report released by U.S. Census Bureau. The uninsured rates were 8.6% and 14.5% in 2016 and 2013, respectively. During 2017, 38 states and the District of Columbia had an uninsured rate of 10% or less. Only Oklahoma and Texas had an uninsured rate of 14% or more. In general, the uninsured rate in states that expanded Medicaid eligibility was lower than in states that did not.
