Updated KFF Health Insurance
Marketplace Calculator Provides Consumers with Estimates of Their 2020
Individual Market Premiums and What Federal Financial Help May Be Available
To
assist consumers, KFF has updated its Health Insurance Marketplace Calculator to include
local data on the 2020 health plans being sold through Affordable Care Act
marketplaces during the annual ACA open enrollment period that began today,
Friday, Nov. 1.
With
the tool, consumers can generate estimates of their health insurance premiums
and the federal subsidies they may be eligible for when purchasing insurance
on their own in the ACA marketplaces. (A Spanish-language version of the calculator is also available.) The
interactive tool can also help users learn whether they may be eligible for
Medicaid, though eligibility requirements vary by state.
Also
available are new state-level estimates of how premiums are changing for
ACA benchmark plans and lowest-cost plans in every metal tier in all 50
states and Washington D.C. in 2020. They show that unsubsidized premiums for
benchmark silver plans – which are the basis for determining federal
financial help for consumers – are dropping by 3 percent, on average, and by
slightly smaller amounts for the lowest-cost bronze, silver and gold plans.
Whether consumers will see their premium payments rise or fall will depend on
their income, their preferred metal level plan and how specific plan premiums
are changing at the county level.
KFF
also recently released an updated and expanded searchable collection of more
than 300 Frequently Asked Questions about open enrollment, the
health insurance marketplaces and the ACA.
The
ACA open enrollment period for the federal marketplace and most state
marketplaces began Nov. 1 and ends on Dec. 15.
Filling
the need for trusted information on national health issues, the Kaiser Family Foundation is
a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco, California.
