Congress reaches deal on $900B COVID-19 relief
package
Lawmakers on Sunday finalized a $900 billion COVID-19 economic
relief package that includes support for the unemployed and businesses affected
by the pandemic. The package, which is expected to come up for a vote in the
House and Senate today, would provide $284 billion for businesses under a
revived Paycheck Protection Program, $600 direct payments to Americans phasing
out for those with income over $75,000, $300 in added unemployment benefits per
week for 11 weeks, an expansion of the Pell grant program for low-income
students and $25 billion in rental assistance, as well as support for schools
and public health efforts.
