Congress
- White
House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows criticized House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
(D-CA) over the inability to come to an agreement on further COVID-related
aid. Meadows indicated
he is not optimistic the parties will be able to reach a deal before
September.
- Speaker
Pelosi's office released talking
points about the House passing the Delivering for America Act, which
would provide $25 billion in funding for the United States Postal Service,
and urged Republicans to end the stalemate and work in a bipartisan manner
on COVID-19 negotiations.
- The
Blue Dog Caucus sent a letter
to Democratic and Republican leaders urging the parties to restart
COVID-relief package negotiations.
- Senate
Small Business Committee Ranking Member Ben Cardin (D-MD) called
for additional federal support for small businesses during a virtual
town hall.
- Representatives
Scott Peters (D-CA), Lucy McBath (D-GA), Anna Eshoo (D-CA) and Brian
Fitzpatrick (R-PA) introduced the Health
STATISTICS Act of 2020, legislation that would standardize public
health data collection and make it easier for federal agencies and states
to share information in an effort to improve their response to the
pandemic and other public health emergencies.
- House
Financial Services Chairwoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) issued a statement
in response to Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson’s
announcement of a foreclosure and eviction moratorium extension.
Administration
- Chief
of Staff Mark Meadows announced the White House is considering further
executive actions in lieu of coronavirus relief legislation. Referencing
the recent airline layoffs, Meadows stated
the Administration hopes to "help out the airlines and keep some of
those employees from being furloughed."
- The
White House released a fact
sheet, "President Donald J. Trump Is Taking Strong Action to
Further Protect Nursing Homes from the Coronavirus."
- On
Monday, the CDC revised its COVID
testing guidance, recommending testing only for symptomatic
individuals.
- CMS
implemented a national nursing
home training program designed to equip frontline nursing home staff
and nursing home management with the knowledge they need to stop the
spread of COVID-19 in their nursing homes.
- CMS
released a Medicaid
Informational Bulletin that provides guidance to states on
flexibilities that are available to increase reimbursement for nursing
facilities that implement specific infection-control practices, such as
designating a quarantine or isolation wing for COVID-19 patients.
- CMS
released FAQs
to Medicare providers regarding the HHS Provider Relief Fund and the
Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program payments.
- The
SBA released additional
details about loans approved under the Paycheck Protection Program,
including an update of previously released data.
- The
federal bank regulatory agencies finalized three
rules, including one that temporarily modifies the community bank
leverage ratio in accordance to the CARES Act.
