Diabetes risk factors tied to COVID-19 death identified

An A1C level of 10% or higher and a body mass index that was lower than 20 kg/m² or over 40 kg/m² were associated with a higher risk for COVID-19-related death among patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, according to a study in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology. Men, people 70 years or older, Black and Asian people, and those with low socioeconomic status had a higher risk of COVID-19 mortality compared with women, those ages 60 to 69, white people and those with higher socioeconomic status.
