Algorithm helps nonprofits get meals to seniors, kids
A machine learning algorithm developed at Carnegie Mellon
University's Robotics Institute has helped nonprofit organizations distribute
6,000 meals a month since July to at-risk senior citizens and children in
southwestern Pennsylvania. The tool optimizes cost-effective delivery routes
and identifies the best distribution locations for reaching the highest number
of people, and Carnegie Mellon is using a National Science Foundation grant to
expand the program in other areas.
