Better tools may improve health plan selection

Ninety-seven percent of 2,300 employees given a choice between two
employer-sponsored health plans would have been better off in the low-premium,
high cost-sharing option, but 23% chose the high-premium, low cost-sharing
option and paying $2,000 more per year, according to a study submitted for
publication. The results suggest that having too many choices isn't why people
struggle to choose the best health insurance plan, and providing better search
and analysis tools might help, write University of Dayton economics professors
