Congress split over calls to break up $1.9T relief
bill
A proposal by Congressional Republicans to form smaller packages
out of the Biden administration's proposed $1.9 trillion COVID-19 rescue bill
was rejected Thursday by Democrats, who are now leaning toward a method to pass
the bill without GOP support. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., have begun drafting a budget
reconciliation bill with the aim of getting the relief bill passed by March
through a simple Senate majority vote.
