Why it matters: What? You mean the prices of stocks aren't
always based on reality? I've covered financial markets for a long time and
I've never seen anything like today's news about brokerages curtailing trading
related to GameStop and AMC Entertainment. Oh, there have been stocks that have
experienced frenzied trading, but brokerages usually make money from the frenzy
... they don't step in to stop it. Make no mistake: Regardless of what they
say, the brokerages aren't curtailing the wild trading to protect individual,
unsophisticated day-traders.
