N95 mask supply and demand was complicated
Why it matters: Demand for N95 masks, designed to protect
wearers from 95% of airborne particles, grew exponentially last March when the
pandemic hit and manufacturers in the US have struggled since then to figure
out their supply strategy. Prestige Ameritech, saying it learned lessons from
the H1N1 pandemic, required hospitals to sign multiyear contracts to provide
additional financial security. Yes, some of those hospitals are the same
hospitals that have become financially strapped because of the pandemic.
