COVID-19 focus may allow spread of drug-resistant
bacteria
Health experts say changes in hospital protocols and practices put
in place to fight the COVID-19 pandemic may be contributing to the spread of
drug-resistant bacteria and fungi, with infection outbreaks reported overseas
and in Florida, New Jersey and California. The Society of Healthcare
Epidemiology of America, the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists and the
Association for Infection Control and Epidemiology have asked the CMS to
temporarily suspend rules linking reimbursements to hospital-acquired
infections.
