Fauci unveils plans for COVID-19 vaccine efficacy
studies
The NIH and CDC will jointly evaluate the efficacy of current
COVID-19 vaccines against new coronavirus variants and collaborate with vaccine
makers for the development of booster shots, according to National Institute of
Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci. Health experts are
concerned about three variants in particular: the B.1.1.7 variant first
identified in the UK, the B.1.351 variant first identified in South Africa and
the P.1 variant now dominant in Brazil.
