AHIP is speaking out against allegations from House Energy and
Commerce Committee Chair Frank Pallone, D-N.J., that health insurance providers
are denying coverage for COVID-19 testing, arguing that insurers have been
taking action to help their members during the pandemic by offering premium
discounts and grace periods, expanding telehealth access, and waiving
cost-sharing for COVID-19 treatment and testing prior to any government
requirements. In response to reports that some insurers reported large
second-quarter profits as a result of delays in elective surgeries, AHIP noted
that costs are expected to increase next year as patients return to regular
care and delayed procedures and seek COVID-19 treatment.
