Study: Number of food-insecure Americans on the rise


The number of Americans who experienced food insecurity jumped more than twofold over the last two decades, increasing from fewer than 9% during 1999-2000 to more than 18% in 2015-2016, according to a study in JAMA Network Open. Researchers analyzed data from the CDC'S National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey involving almost 50,000 US adults and found the prevalence of food insecurity among Black Americans rose from 12% to over 29% during the period while the rate increased from 6% to 13% for white Americans.
