Study shows rise in food insufficiency during
pandemic
An analysis of data from the US Census Household Pulse Survey
involving 63,674 individuals showed overall food insufficiency climbed from
8.1% to 10% between March and June 2020, with factors linked to food
insufficiency including African American or Latin ethnicity or race, lower
education, income below federal poverty level, and recent employment loss. The
study, published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, also found
food insufficiency was independently associated with symptoms of poor mental
health after adjusting for demographic and socioeconomic factors.
