Irving cases surpass 6,000 with 60 deaths as Dallas County tops 70,000, plus other coronavirus updates

Updated at 9:29 a.m. Aug. 28 to update Irving and Dallas County cases and deaths.
Cases of the novel coronavirus in Irving jumped to 6,315, making it the hardest hit city in the county behind Dallas itself, according to Dallas County.
In total, 60 Irving residents have died from the virus.
Dallas County has reported 70,100 total coronavirus cases, including 895 deaths. The county does not report a number of recoveries.
In addition, Irving has 246 probable cases of the virus. Dallas County counts probable cases separately and does not include them in its confirmed case totals.
Statewide, 5,059 new coronavirus cases and 265 COVID-19 deaths were reported Thursday, raising Texas’ totals to 597,737 confirmed cases and 12,070 deaths. Statewide hospitalizations totaled 4,489.
Dallas County’s case counts for Irving are updated Tuesday and Friday.
