States in Midwest report spike in new COVID-19 cases


The US logged 44,109 new COVID-19 infections and 1,222 fatalities on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases to more than 5.8 million and deaths to over 180,000 since the pandemic started. Data from Johns Hopkins University showed cases are declining in hard-hit states such as California, Florida, Texas and Arizona, but cases are rising in the Midwest, where North Dakota, Kansas, Iowa and Indiana are reporting spikes in their seven-day average for new infections.
