ACL Awards New Grants to Support Minority Aging Organizations

ACL is pleased to announce the awarding of six-cooperative agreements totaling $1,150,160.00 to provide targeted technical assistance to the aging services network to better meet the needs of older adults from diverse communities. The program is titled Strengthening Aging Services for Minority Populations Through Technical Assistance, Resource Development, and Program Coordination. It consists of two separate but complementary activities:
  1. The Minority Organization TARC Program will provide targeted technical assistance and training to the aging services network and other relevant stakeholders and consumers. Program activities will focus on the following minority older adult populations: African American; Hispanic; Asian-Pacific Islander; Native Americans; and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT). The five organizations receiving grants are as follows:
    • Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE)
    • National Caucus and Center on Black Aging (NCBA)
    • National Indian Council on Aging (NICOA)
    • MHP Salud
    • National Asian Pacific Center on Aging (NAPCA)
  2. In its ongoing effort to better support the needs of diverse older adults and their family caregivers, ACL is also funding the The Center for Healthy Aging at The New York Academy of Medicine to establish a new Coordinating Center for Minority Organizations TARC Program. This new effort will promote closer collaboration, coordination, and cross-program efforts across numerous ACL-funded resource centers focused on older adults, family caregivers, and where applicable, persons with disabilities; and with other stakeholders to promote greater cross-sectional work on behalf of diverse older adults and their family caregivers.
