Study finds delays in ASD diagnosis in Black children


A study in Pediatrics found that the mean age of autism spectrum disorder diagnosis in Black children was 5.4 years, which was, on average, more than three years after parents first reported concerns about their child's behavior or development. The findings, based on data involving 584 Black children with ASD, also showed that 41.6% of parents reported going to multiple health care providers before their child was diagnosed and 14% reported seeing at least six doctors before getting an ASD diagnosis.
